Mission Statement
How we came about
The very start of SUNMAI began with three German style beers: wheat beer, dark lager, and amber lager, which were initially only served in “Le Blé d’Or” restuarants. Our Chinese name, Jin-Se-San-Mai, literally means “Three golden malts”.
After years of development, we created a brew with locally produced longan honey and won WBC championship in 2004 with it. It dawned on us that only by rediscovering the unique local ingredients can we show the world what they haven’t tasted in beers!
From there, we explored countless possibilities and succeeded in creating more sparks with new techniques and local features. In 2016, we officially renamed ourselves to “SUNMAI”, to accent our Chinese brand name and our contemporary Taiwanese style.
Our logo takes inspiration of the outline of a barrel, formed by three neatly arranged horizontal strokes that also mimic the Eight Triagrams “Sky” in I-Ching. For us, it means the harmony of the sky, the people, and the earth.

While the techniques are constantly exploited for better refinement, the most frequently drunken beers are only down to a few. We would like to turn around the common impression that “craft or independent beer is only for a niche market”, by being the gateway to versatilities and tastes.
Who says beer is only about hops and froth? The drinker is the one to determine his/her own taste perception. At SUNMAI, we believe each drop is to be celebrated as it creates sensations that only belong to the moment of its drinker.
